Malvin Thuo finally received heart surgery – and is doing well!

Malvin is one out of three siblings, living in the poor neighborhood of Kawangware in Nairobi. His mother died four years ago from meningitis. His father who works as a security guard is taking care alone for the family. The monthly income is about 50 Euros therefore there is often only a meal once a day affordable. A good education for the children is beyond its means.

Nevertheless, the daily life might be tolerable if Malvin had not been born with a serious congenital heart defect (CHD). The main artery leading from the heart and supplying the body is narrowed.

The body suffers from permanent lack of sufficient blood supply especially when it comes to exercise. The respective heart murmur caused by the blood flowing through the narrowed passage is that loud that it is audible without a doctor’s stethoscope just by putting ones ear close to the chest. This is how his father became aware of the problem. The consequences for Malvin was delayed physical development, fatigue even at low strain levels and on the long term perspective early death from heart failure. Playing, toying around and having fun with kids of his age were no longer possible.

The operation costs in the well-known Mater Hospital in Nairobi, where also our first heart patient, the little Samuel from Malawi has been successfully operated a few months ago, was about to 6000 Euros. Out of this amount 3000 Euro have been raised so far by Kenyan.

The remaining amount of 3000 Euros was covered by your donations. Eventually on 7 November 2012 Malvin – received successfully heart surgery.

All donors contributed to Malvin’s new life.

Thank you very much!
