You still remember, Tressy lives with her 4 month old sister and their mother on the edge of the notorious Kibera slum in the south of Nairobi.
Their mother contributes to family income with casual work as a launderer.
The father has also an irregular income only, since he has no professional background of any kind. Even if he would have a proper education, given the high unemployment of up to 80% in Kenya, most likely it wouldn’t be of much help.
In 2002 Tressy’s mother moved full of hope for a better life from Kisumu on Lake Victoria to Nairobi, after she had leave the primary school too early due to the death of both parents to AIDS. But as so often in Kibera her plans didn’t become reality.
Tressys mother told us that her daughter doesn’t sleep well at night. She snores and wakes up frequently and during the day she is not as agile and active as she used to be. The medical examination revealed nasal polyps. Certainly not a “big deal”- if there wouldn’t be the costs of 200 Euros for the surgical removal.
Thanks of your donation TULISA financed the necessary surgical intervention and ever since Tressy enjoys good health.
